Wait! They’re different!
I was talking with a woman the other day about Existential Thread. When she told me her eleven-year-old is very advanced, loves sci-fi and she wanted to order a copy for her daughter, I suggested that might not be appropriate. I told her that The Salt Messages is PG but Existential Thread is definitely R-rated.
The idea wasn’t to simply write bathroom wall stuff when I wrote the first book. But, as I explained to a reader who was clearly offended by some of what she read, it was necessary for character and plot development.
The Salt Messages is very different. As many of you know, one of our daughters has been fighting cancer. She is an amazing person and I pray every day that she will beat this #%&!*@ disease. So, this second book is a very personal story that blends real and imagined events, and hopefully does so in a way that will inspire the reader.
As I said in the Author’s Notes, Existential Thread should scare all of us. My hope is it causes us to look for ways to move forward to create a different thread. And, The Salt Messages should ideally help us open our hearts and minds to the wonders around us every day and to remember how much we all truly need each other.
