Time to rethink time?
I’m sure the concept of time travel has fascinated humans since the beginning of time. How many of us would love to go back to change a decision we made? Or, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to travel to the past to see if our history books are really telling us the way it was or simply making up stuff?
To be honest, I’d be happy if I could just go back to the early days of Apple or Amazon and pick up a few thousand shares.
I can tell you that having to think in four dimensions was challenging to me as a writer. I was constantly worrying about the impact of changing an event in the past and the implications for the present…er, future. Whatever. Changing the past creates a paradox in present time because that change would eliminate the present state need to make the change. I tried to address that paradox by suggesting different time threads can/do coexist.
But, time travel is just a fiction – right?
Well, apparently an Australian senior honors student from the University of Queensland has actually created a mathematical proof for the possibility of time travel (https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/math/amp34146674/paradox-free-time-travel-is-possible/). He’s way beyond my ability to truly understand all the implications, but I’ll take his word for it.
So, if he can just help me play the stock market in the past. But, then I’d be so stinking rich I might not decide to write. There’s that paradox thing again.
